HANGING ROCK WINERY

Hanging Rock Tarzali Riesling

$30

Hanging Rock Winery founder, John Ellis always had an affiliation with Riesling. His first job was at Leo Buring working under the king of Australian rieslings, John Vickery. Whilst at Yalumba, he was responsible for Pewsey Vale Riesling. He then went to the Hunter Valley to become the foundation winemaker at Rosemount Estate. There, the rieslings and gewurztraminers put Rosemount Estate on the map. The next move came in 1978 when his wife, Ann Tyrrell, and he went to Echuca to help establish the Tisdall Winery. One of the best wines made there, was the 1979 Mount Helen Riesling from the Strathbogie Ranges.

In 2003 John Ellises cousin David Ross retired and told him that it was time to plant the vineyard that he and his wife Pauline had been dreaming of. As a result ‘Tarzali Riesling’ was born. ‘Tarzali’ is at Warrenbayne, at the northern end of the Strathbogie Ranges.

2021 was a warm and dry year in the Strathbogie Ranges. This has resulted in a rich yet elegant wine with plenty of class and finesse.

This wine is made to age. We have made sure this wine is well balanced between fruit and acid to ensure the wine will age gracefully, developing toast and honey characters.
