HANGING ROCK WINERY
Macedon Ranges Pinot Noir 2022
The cooler nature of the 2022 vintage means the wine has an elegance to it along with floral notes and a great structure and length.
The wine was wild fermented in open fermenters with 1/3 whole bunch fermented to promote carbonic maceration which softens the wine. It then spent 12 months in a mixture of new and old french oak. The fruit comes from a mixture of clones in our own vineyard 'The Jim Jim' Vineyard.
Background
The Macedon Ranges is arguably Australia's coldest grape growing region. It is cold by world viticultural standards, producing wines that have a lot in common with the cooler regions of France and New Zealand and bearing little similarity to those of the warmer parts of Australia where this variety is often grown. This makes the Macedon Ranges very well regarded for its Pinot Noir.
